Multifunctional complex EUROVEA 2 - Roofing of the shopping arcade

The central corridor of the shopping arcade is roofed with a spectacular skylight of irregular freeform construction. The basic dimensions of the roofing are 170 m long and 13 m to 22 m wide/span. Geometrically, the structure uses a combination of cylindrical and collapsed dome-shaped surfaces. A triangular network of straight load-bearing and glazing elements filled with planar insulating triple glazing units is designed to maximise approximation to the basic rounded shapes. The curves and surfaces are thus divided into continuously connected polygons and polyhedra.

The entire structure consists of approximately 2,200 nodes and 5,000 elements. The individual nodes in individual geometries with limited repeatability of the parts were made from solid steel prisms by machining on a 5-axis CNC centre. Typically, there are 6 partitions attached to a single node.

With the skylight of the Eurovea 2 project, another structure has gained pride of place in our already comprehensive portfolio of completed buildings with a demanding three-dimensional geometry of both the supporting structure and the cladding.
